About Kartik Puja (Kartik Purnima)
Kartik Puja, also known as Kartik Purnima, is a Hindu festival celebrated on the full moon day (Purnima) in the Hindu lunar month of Kartik (October-November). It holds significant religious and cultural importance across India, particularly among devotees of Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva, and Goddess Tulsi. Kartik Puja is observed with various rituals and customs. Devotees wake up early in the morning, take a holy bath in rivers, especially the Ganges, and perform prayers and offerings to the deities. It is believed that performing these rituals on Kartik Purnima is highly auspicious and helps in attaining spiritual merits and blessings. One of the main rituals of Kartik Puja is the lighting of earthen lamps (diyas) in temples, homes, and along the riverbanks. This act symbolizes the dispelling of darkness and the victory of light over darkness. Devotees also offer flowers, fruits, sweets, and incense to the deities as a form of worship. Kartik Puja is also associated with the worship of Goddess Tulsi, the sacred basil plant. Devotees offer prayers to Tulsi and perform rituals like watering the plant, applying vermilion (sindoor), and circumambulating it. In some regions, Kartik Puja is celebrated with cultural programs, music, dance, and community feasting. The festival brings people together in a spirit of devotion, piety, and reverence for the divine. It is believed that observing Kartik Puja with sincerity and devotion can bring peace, prosperity, and spiritual upliftment to individuals and their families.
