About Maha Shivaratri
Maha Shivaratri, celebrated annually in honor of Lord Shiva, holds significant cultural and spiritual importance in Hinduism. Observed on the 14th day of the dark fortnight in the Hindu lunar month of Phalguna (usually falling in February or March), it marks the convergence of Shiva and Shakti energies, symbolizing the overcoming of darkness and ignorance. Devotees observe fasts, visit Shiva temples, and engage in rituals like Rudrabhishekam, where the deity is bathed with offerings like milk, water, and honey. Many stay awake all night, chanting prayers and performing bhajans in devotion to Lord Shiva. The festival also commemorates the divine marriage of Shiva and Parvati. Maha Shivaratri is not just a religious observance but also a time for spiritual introspection and renewal. It inspires devotees to seek inner transformation, cultivate virtues, and overcome obstacles on their path to enlightenment, embodying the essence of devotion, austerity, and divine union.
