About Vishu
Vishu, a significant festival celebrated in the Indian state of Kerala, marks the Malayalam New Year and is observed with great enthusiasm by the Malayali community. Falling in mid-April, usually on the first day of the Malayalam month of Medam, Vishu is a time for family gatherings, feasting, and cultural festivities. The day begins with the ceremonial Vishukkani, where auspicious items such as rice, fruits, vegetables, flowers, and a mirror are arranged in front of deities, symbolizing prosperity and abundance for the year ahead. People wear new clothes, visit temples, and exchange gifts with loved ones. Traditional delicacies like Vishu Kanji, Thoran, and Vishu Sadya are prepared and enjoyed together. Fireworks, music, and dance performances add to the joyous atmosphere. Vishu embodies the spirit of renewal, hope, and unity, fostering a sense of community and cultural pride among Keralites.
