Messages and message requests

Starting a conversation

Open someone’s profile and choose Message. On the website you can also go to Messages and choose New message, or send a post to someone from its share menu.

Messages are text. Once your message has been read, you’ll see it marked as read.

Message requests

If you message someone who doesn’t follow you, your message arrives as a request. They can accept it or decline it, and they can’t reply until they accept.

On the website, requests you receive are under Requests in Messages.

Staying safe

• Messages are checked for abusive language, and a message that fails the check isn’t sent.
• You can report a message you received from inside the conversation.
• Blocking someone stops all messages between you, including in a conversation you already had.
